Trauma and Injury Prevention Expo

September is National Preparedness Month. In the spirit of preparedness, McAllen Medical Center, the Upper Valley’s designated advanced Level III trauma center, will host the second annual Trauma and Injury Prevention Expo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 30, 2017. Hear from physicians, clinicians, first responders and other partner agencies about how to prevent injuries and how the public can best respond to potential dangers lurking in our homes, backyards and communities.

The expo includes interactive exhibits, tours of air and ground ambulances, vehicle extraction demonstrations, a grilling safety area and more! Speakers will educate expo-goers about "Dangers in Your Home and Backyard."

Other speakers and topics include:

  • Luis Slayton, Bee Expert – Dangerous wildlife and insects lurking in the backyard
  • Jaime Gasco, MD – Head Injuries & Falls
  • Angel Lamas, MD – Dry Drowning: what is it and how to recognize it
  • Jerry Bonham – Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: the Silent Killer

Children can bring their teddy bear or other special stuffed animal for a checkup at the Teddy Bear Clinic.

Food trucks will be on-site providing refreshments.

Opening Ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m.

Check in will be at the Doubletree Hotel. Please register at the hotel when you arrive to receive your card and map to take around to the booths, and to be eligible for door prizes.

Interior and exterior exhibits will be at both the hotel and hospital. We look forward to seeing you there!
